What happened on day 8 of the IKF European Korfball Championship 2018?
France - Scotland
The Scots started on a high, after ten minutes there was a 0-6 lead on the scoreboard. The French were able to come back a little in the second quarter, but at halftime the Scots were still in the lead: 6-10. Right after the halftime period the French scored three times in a row and the Scottish lead was gone. After three quarters, there was a small gap left, but once again the French showed resilience. Four minutes before the end, the score was even (14-14) and with one and a half minutes left Lauriane Lopez scored a running in shot. The Scots made two substitutes and had a few chances to score but it was too little, too late. France wins her third game this EKC and ranks thirteenth. Fourteenth place is for Scotland. (15-14, statistics)
Wales - Slovakia
The game for ranks eleven and twelve of this EKC. In the first quarter, both teams were equal but after that, Slovakia was much stronger. Wales tried, but in the last quarter the Slovaks went on to a simple victory. Beautiful was the marriage proposal to Andrea Fialova (she said yes!) and the goodbye to John Williams, who retires after this EKC. Slovakia ranks eleventh, Wales twelfth. (15-18, statistics)
Poland - Ireland
Sadly, Ireland closed the tournament on a low. Poland was stronger overall and the Irish could not do anything about it. Rafal Diadik became top scorer with nine goals. For Poland as well as for Ireland, this tournament was a succes because of them qualifying for the WKC 2019 in Durban, South-Africa. Poland ranks ninth, Ireland tenth. (21-7, statistics)
